Search engine optimization through link building

search engine optimization with link buildingAfter optimizing website content and structure, the most crucial aspect of SEO begins: building inbound links.

Suppose you owned a search engine -- could you think of any better way to reliably rate the quality of a website than by counting the number of other quality websites linking to it? Google gives tremendous weight to this component of it's ranking formula. Therefore, inbound links are probably the single most important element of search engine optimization today, and building them should be an ongoing project for any website owner. I say "ongoing", because it would be "reasonable" to assume that a highly useful/relevant website will naturally accumulate inbound links over time.

Therefore, if you are launching a quality website that's truly useful to visitors, then your job will be easier in the long run as webmasters, bloggers, and customers link to your site naturally. But whether your site is novel or not, in the beginning you're going to have to employ some other methods to get the inbound links rolling. Here are some ideas:

  1. If you think that your site is special enough that people will begin linking to it right away, then it may be worthwhile to invest in some initial paid clicks (PPC) to let the world know you're up and running.
  2. Participate in discussion forums and blogs where you can include a site link in your signature line. Not all forums allow links, but many do. Be sure to post quality input (responses only), so that webmasters value your posts and don't perceive you to be spamming.

    * Be sure that the forums and blogs you're posting on are closely related to your site content. Links from unrelated sites could hurt your search ranking.
  3. Start your own blogs on Wordpress.com and/or Blogger.com with content related to your primary website, and then link those blogs to your site. These quality blogging services seem to get indexed by search engines rather quickly, partly because they are very search engine friendly. I suggest registering for a blog URL (free) that includes keywords related to your business. Having your own blog will also make it easier to participate on other people's blogs with "linkbacks". Google to view your blog links more favorably as your blog traffic increases.
  4. Buy one-way links to improve your natural search engine optimization. This is perhaps the most efficient method of building inbound links quickly.
