Learn how to make cheap signs
At around $10 per foot from most printshops, vinyl lettering for vehicles/street signs can get expensive. One of my best website promotion investments was a 12" vinyl cutter on eBay for $150. This little machine allows me to print vinyl letter stickers right from my computer, which can then be applied to cars, windows, corrugated plastic, and more.

For cheap signs, corrugated plastic sheets can be purchased on eBay (search "coroplast") and are perfect for attaching to phone poles on busy streets, or for mounting on stakes. Coroplast is cheap, easy to cut, and easy to apply vinyl lettering to.

To save even more time/money, I now print 8.5x11 inch signs on white paper, take them to a printshop for enlarging to 11x17 inch on bright paper, and then use "3M Super 77" spray adhesive for mounting the paper onto the coroplast.

While this may appear to be the world's most boring method of website promotion, these guys (and their signs) actually get a lot of attention, especially if they pick a busy corner. And they get even more attention if they know some sign spinning tricks or wear a costume. In fact, a costume/mask may actually save you some embarrassment if you're shy. Give it a try and see -- be sure to load your iPod up with some good tunes or an audio book before heading out!
